Measuring Instructions

First, let's decide how I will mount the Bella screen. Doors first! Which way does the door swing inside or outside.

 

If you have an out swing door you screen will be mounted opposite of the door swing. Now look at the door stop in the center of the jamb. Measure the edge of the jamb from the door stop outwards. Bet you have at least 1-1/2”. That is plenty of room to recess mount your Bella retractable screen.

 

If you have the required 1-1/2” depth move on to the recessed mount below. If you did not have the required depth move on to the surface mount paragraph.

Windows that swing out will mean the Bella screen will be installed in the interior of the house. Lets take a look at the window on the inside. What is the depth of the opening? Do you have 1-1/2”? If so your Bella screen will be recess mounted so move down to the recess mount note below. Does your window swing inwards?

 

If so lets go outside and look at the opening. Is the window recessed into the opening? Is the recess 1-1/2” deep? If so does the recess have a flat surface for the screen assembly to mount to? Sometimes stucco is used in the recess and can be at an angle or bumpy preventing a neat surface to mount the screen assembly to.

 

If you have the depth and a proper mount surface move to the recess mount notes below. If you don’t have the depth or a proper mount surface you will surface mount your screen and it is time to move onto the surface mount notes below.

 

Recessed Mount

A Bella retractable screen installation is usually recessed into a window or door jamb (frame). We are fortunate in the US as window and door manufacturers of prehung windows and doors always provide the 1-1/2” depth we need for a recessed installation.

 

We simply need the width and height dimension to within 1/8” of the opening you plan to recess the Bella screen into. The required minimum depth to install the roll screen is 1-1/2”. These measurements should be made at several locations of both width and height and the smallest measurement should be used.

 

 

Recommented tools

• Measuring tape 3/4" to 1" wide no flimsy tape measures
• Drill or screw gun with a 1/4" or larger chuck
  
• 1/8" high speed drill bit suitable for wood and aluminum
  
• 1/4" masonry drill bit for drilling into concrete, stucco or soft tile
  
• #2 Phillips screw driver bit that will drive the attaching screws.
  
• 1/4" tile drill bit for hard tile or marble and granite
• Level if you are installing on the surface outside of the opening
